Every Thursday night I hold a workshop where anybody who is interested may come along no matter what their skill level may be. There is no formal programme and people can develop at their own speed as well as defining their own style. I hope that I am able to help people overcome the varied problems that they may encounter. These workshops have been going now for five years and although students come and go the numbers remain about the same. A number of the students who came not having done much or any watercolour have become proficient enough to produce work that they have sold. The students also come to love the excitement of watercolour with it's unpredictability. I always say that I do not teach them how to paint but how watercolours work.
I have also visited both schools in Stanley and shown the children how to work with watercolour. There is far too much poor quality materials in schools and this can only produce poor results from even the most gifted student. |
